On 28th June, Green Party campaigner Ayse Demir and fellow Greens joined the recent demonstration against Thames Water’s plans to take water from the Thames at Teddington and replace it with treated sewage. As well as the detrimental impact to the river, the construction of the plant would also have a huge impact on surrounding green spaces.

“Kingston Greens are totally opposed to this scheme. This is completely the wrong solution to tackling water security,” said Ayse. ”They would do much better to fix their leaks than spend millions on this white elephant”.

Thames Water now have to undertake a statutory consultation. Good news, right? Except their official form just assumes the plant’s going to be built and asks which design we like best!
But if instead you send an email or Freepost letter to the consultation before 26th August, your views HAVE to be taken into account – as long as you provide a full name, address and postcode.
Email TDRA@ipsos.com, or write to FREEPOST TDRA CONSULTATION, to register your objection to the whole scheme. Our green spaces and rivers are precious – let’s not allow Thames Water to ruin them.
If you’re not sure what to write in your response, Save our Lands and River (SOLAR), the campaign group that organised the event, have put together some useful advice and guidance which you can find at https://saveourlandsandriver.org.uk/how-to-respond-to-the-consultation.
