A Kingston Green Party member is cycling over 1,000 miles to Barcelona to help fund a legal challenge against local oil drilling.

Simon Sinclair and co-cyclist Sam Swain are raising money to help contest Surrey County Council’s decision to allow oil exploration at Horse Hill, Surrey for the next 20 years.

The pair stopped off at the site on the first leg of their month-long trip which started on 3 July at Kingston’s Memorial Gardens.

Simon and Sam are also using the journey to promote Full Cycle, a community project based at The Circulatory in Berrylands. The project fixes and recycles unwanted bikes and offers them at affordable prices across the borough.

Kingston Green councillor Sharron Sumner said:

“It’s fantastic that one of our members is completing this journey to raise awareness of two local environmental issues. Our party’s committed to tackling climate change and supporting projects that benefit the people of Kingston.”
